Green Smoothie

Green Smoothie

This green smoothie tastes great, is great for you packing in lots of nutrients and plenty of veggies and will definitely be a great way to stay cool this summer. Green smoothies are a wonderful way to start your day, they’re loaded with nutrients, cold, and super quick to make (about 5 minutes in all) and you can even take them on the road to work, summer travels, etc.

This recipe is great because it doesn’t have hard to digest items, not many ingredients so the end taste is pleasant, its also easy to digest because there are no seeds, nut or such incorporated. And best of all these are ingredients that are available to people year round and most people have access to them locally.

1 – 1 1/2 cup of filtered water

5-9 ice cubes (I use filtered water to make my ice cubes – I use more because I love this super cold, adjust to your taste buds)

1 organic apple

1 organic pear

1/2 – 1 heart of organic romaine

2 handfuls of organic spinach

2 stalks of organic celery

juice of 1/2 organic lemon

Place all ingredients in a high powered blender and mix until desired consistency is achieved (I add the water, then greens, celery, apple, pear, and blend for about 30 seconds > then I add the juice of half a lemon and the ice and blend for about 30 seconds more on high speed)

Serve immediately nice and cold

to ensure a tasty green smoothie for all newbies avoid combing lots of ingredients, use lots of ice and pick less pronounced greens (such as spinach, cucumber and celery)

This very berry smoothie not only tastes great but is great for you and is the perfect breakfast on the go since it only takes a few minutes to whip up. Its also vegan, soy free, dairy free, and gluten free. This recipe is great for those who have a hard time digesting dairy (whey smoothies) and calls for no milk.
Ingredients
  • 1 cup of cold, filtered water – reduce to ¾ cup for a thicker smoothie
  • 1 scoop of Sun Warrior Warrior Blend Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1 Large Handful of Spinach (you can also substitute kale)
  • ⅓ Cup of Organic, Frozen Raspberries
  • ⅔ Cup of Organic, Frozen Blue Berries
  • 2 ice cubes

Instructions
  1. Add all the ingredients in the order above into your blender
  2. Blend until thoroughly smooth, about 20 seconds for me on Vitamix Variable 10.
  3. If you don’t own a high speed blender such as Vitamix/Blendtec, I highly recommend blending the spinach and water thoroughly before all other ingredients to ensure no lumps and even smoothness

Feel free to vary your berries, I made another one of these the other day and it tasted very good with blackberries (in lieu of blueberries)

Really Red Salad

red salad

Today I am sharing my recipe for a light and refreshing red salad. Many of us are constantly eating salads but what sets my really red salad apart is there are no greens. Its a perfect side dish or salad to take to work and because there are no greens you can dress your salad ahead of time and not worry about wilting. This salad packs a punch of vitamins, in fact 1 red bell pepper has more vitamin c than an orange and 1 cup of raw red bell peppers has approximately 292% of your daily vitamin c intake (source.) Tomato’s are rich in lycopene a cancer fighting property.

  • ½ to 1 tsp of organic honey mustard

Instructions
  1. Mix the dressing ingredients really well in a bowl
  2. Then slice / chop your Salad Ingredients and add them all to the bowl
  3. Stir to combine and leave to sit at least 30 minutes
  4. Or if pressed for time you can make this salad the night before and pop it in the fridge.
  5. To duplicate this recipe make sure to include 1 pepper and 1 tomato per person and 1 whole red onion for 6 people.
  6. See below this recipe for ways to customize

Want to customize this salad you could always add some red beets to add additional vitamin c and folate. Also the olive oil is optional as you can just mix 2 tsp of organic honey mustard dressing and 1 Tbsp. of Raw ACV. Want to make this vegan? Go ahead and replace organic honey mustard with organic dijon mustard.
